"It was a huge success for Helen and our team!" Rehab Director Sara
Helen first arrived at Fairfield Village facing immense obstacles. She was admitted due to heart failure and a leg laceration, which resulted from an injury sustained during a car transfer. She was severely debilitated by an intense fear of falling, requiring a 2 person maximum assist transfer.
Each day, Helen drew motivation from one special goal: to see her great-grandson Makai play at his senior night football game. She even had a poster with encouragement from him, urging her to get better so she could attend his games.
PT Jennie Roberts and the Consonus team stepped in to help Helen make the impossible possible, addressing Helen’s weakness, fear, and functional limitations. Jennie focused on key exercises to meet Helen’s goal of mobility and safe car transfers:
• Intensive Transfer Training: Focused therapy to transition Helen from needing a 2 person max assist to regaining her independence.
• Education on Car Transfers: Providing training and education to help rebuild Helen’s confidence while working through her initial injury.
• Goal-Focused Encouragement: Using the upcoming senior night celebration as the powerful motivation to keep motivated on her progress.
Helen rebuilt the confidence and functional mobility that she needed for safe transfers, and her dedication paid off as she achieved her goal: attending her great-grandson, Makai’s, senior night football game celebration. Her journey was a powerful reminder that recovery is about showing up for the ones you love.
