Polly Wants to Dance

"All I want is to slow dance with my husband again." Polly

Polly wondered if she’d ever walk again until she shared one meaningful goal with her therapist.

Polly arrived at River Hills Village after getting COVID-19, unsure what the future would hold. The virus had intensified her Parkinson’s symptoms, leaving her wondering if she would ever walk more than a few steps again.

But Polly was determined. When she began noticing progress, she shared a deeply personal goal with her COTA/L, Justin: “I want to slow dance with my husband again.”

It had been years since they shared that simple joy, and that memory became her inspiration. Justin encouraged her right away: “Let’s do it! We’ll make sure you can slow dance to any song you want by graduation day.”

Polly pushed herself with focus and determination. Her Consonus Rehab team tailored a plan around her goal, addressing strength, mobility, and the complexities of Parkinson’s. She was able to:

  • Regain functional mobility
  • Transition safely from rehab back home
  • Achieve her ultimate goal of dancing with her husband

Polly’s story proves that personalized therapy, and having a goal that matters to them can help get back to the simple, joyful moments in life.
